Eat This: Buttermilk Fried Chicken Sliders and Pork Street Tacos at The Lift
I've always enjoyed The Lift's shady, grape-vine-draped back patio in the summertime. It's a quick bike jaunt down the Greenbelt and is somehow insulated from the chaos of nearby State Street. Not to mention, I can get a stiff $3 gin and soda during happy hour.
But apart from The Lift's famous fish tacos, I tend to shy away from the food—nachos, burgers, etc. That is, until recently, when I spotted a couple of intriguing new additions to the appetizer menu: Pork Street Tacos and Buttermilk Chicken Sliders.
The tacos featured three tiny corn tortillas piled high with pulled pork carnitas, a creamy sauce, slivered green onions and a crumbly queso fresco. They also came with a bowl of lightly seasoned black beans. Though the tacos were top-notch, the fried chicken sliders stole the show.
The Lift nailed the batter on the buttermilk fried chicken—it was extra crunchy and perfectly salty, yet the chicken was moist and tender. The mini cornmeal-dusted buns had a nice softness to counter the crispy chicken, while the tart pickles balanced the generous smear of mayo.
I'll definitely be back for more of these little buddies. And a few gin and sodas, as well.
